Alecia M. Prentice, 82, of New Philadelphia formerly of Sugarcreek, passed away at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover on Sunday, January 4, 2026, following a brief period of declining health.

Born in Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ervin “Hap” and Maude (Plants) Sherwood, and a graduate of Shinglehouse High School.

Alecia had worked as a home health aide, waitress, nursing home aide, and as an with E.M.T. with Swiss Valley Ambulance Service in Baltic, volunteer with the American Red Cross as a C.P.R. and First Aid instructor and disaster aid.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, and a former member of Union Hill Church in Sugarcreek.

Alecia is survived by her daughters Nanette (Michael) Shirdon of Hiram, Ohio, and Jolene (Chad Schilling) Prentice of Baltic; grandchildren Corrina Shirdon, Spencer Shirdon, and Dominic Shirdon.

Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with Pastor John Armstrong officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek.  Friends may call at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek on Friday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to services.
