The next generation of attorneys are again getting to put their skills on display by simulating real courtroom proceedings.

High schoolers are participating in district competition mock trials Friday at the Tuscarawas County courthouse.

Juvenile court judge Adam Wilgus, who oversees the event, says 10 high school teams will be involved as they argue a fictional criminal case, guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisors.

Wilgus says he started off as a volunteer judge for the local competition before taking over as coordinator.

A panel of volunteers typically serves as judges during the mock trials and evaluates student performance.

The winners at Friday’s mock trials then advance to next month’s regional competition.
