Tuscora Park is moving closer to welcoming a new inclusive playground, thanks to the dedication of New Philadelphia teacher Preston Cornell.

Cornell, who was inspired by a desire to honor her late mother, identified a need for accessible play equipment and turned that vision into action.

The playground, slated to go in behind the park’s putt-putt, is expected to feature wheelchair-accessible equipment, a sensory-friendly serenity spot, a musical garden, and inclusive features such as swings, a zipline, an orbit, and a slide all on a smooth, mobility-friendly surface.

Cornell has been working alongside the City of New Philadelphia, the Park Board, and others, hoping construction will be completed by Memorial Day weekend.

The goal has been to raise $500,000 and she’s hopeful the project will soon cross the finish line. Donations can be made to the Tuscora Park Foundation.
