A Dover fire vehicle was involved in a crash about 100 feet from the station while responding to an emergency call Friday morning. Nobody was hurt.
State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says the fire chief’s truck – a 2005 Ford F-350 – driven by Captain Mike Mosser was northbound on Wooster Avenue when it was struck by a 2022 Toyota Tacoma pickup at the intersection with 3rd Street.
The driver of the Tacoma, a 64-year-old Dover man, was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way to a public safety vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Mosser says the fire chief’s truck had to be towed since that model has a fuel cutoff switch that activates if it’s in an accident, so the truck wouldn’t start again. City mechanics are looking at it to see if they can get it started and get a damage assessment.
The state highway patrol investigated because it involved a city vehicle.
