Dover is looking to hire a police officer after the retirement of a longtime detective.

Jason Peters recently retired after more than three decades in law enforcement.

Service Director Bob Everett congratulated him this week on a career that included 25 ½ years working for Dover.

That leaves an opening in the police department. The city will accept applications through March 18th

The March 21st competitive exam will include written and physical agility tests. In recent years Dover has added incentives and loosened restrictions to attract new officers.

Last year, the city started paying for training expenses – up to 15-thousand dollars – and increased officer pay by 2-dollar an hour.

Meanwhile the city increased the age of eligibility from 35 to 50 and loosened restrictions on facial hair and tattoos. That helped restore the department to full strength prior to Peters’ retirement.
