It’ll be a few more years, but plans are in the work to construct a single-lane roundabout near Walnut Creek.
District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell says the project is at the intersection of State Route 39 and Country Road 114.
“This will be the second roundabout in Holmes County. The way this project came about is a collaboration between ODOT and the county engineer’s office with growing concerns with safety at that intersection. That is when we started looking into a project for the location.”
Borell says the $5 million in awarded funding will cover 90% of construction.
“The funding is part of Governor DeWine’s major safety initiative he’s had during his term in office, and this is one of those projects that will be utilizing that available funding.”
The work is not anticipated to start until 2030.
“The funding was just announced for this project. ODOT will do a traffic study to initiate the project. It’s very early on but that funding is a keynote to get this project kickstarted.”
One thing ODOT will consider is the unique traffic in that area, which includes regular and commercial vehicles, buggies, and bicycles.
