Robert Omer Shuman, age 92 of Strasburg, and formerly of Baltic, went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, February 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Quaker City, Ohio, on August 20, 1933, Bob was the son of the late William Howard and Gertrude Lucille Foraker Shuman. At a young age, Bob’s father passed, and he entered the workforce to assist his mother and younger brothers. It was during that time he met and fell in love with the love of his life, the former Chelsie Jackson, with whom he also shared a birthday. The couple even wed on their birthday, August 20, 1954, and raised their family of eight children in the Baltic area.
For 32 years, Bob supported his large family through his work at Gradall. While Chelsie was optimistic about retirement, Bob promised retirement as one big vacation, and they did just that. For 25 years past retirement, the couple shared in many adventures, touring and visiting much of the United States.
The family’s faith has been nurtured for many years at the Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, where Bob served as both an Usher and Communion Server.
Surviving are his seven children, Robert (Linda) Shuman of Gnadenhutten, William (Bonnie) Shuman of Maryland, Timothy (Sherri) Shuman of Baltic, Stephanie (Bob) Roth of Strasburg, Kenneth (Missy) Shuman of New Philadelphia, Kathyrn (David) Exline of Hanoverton, and Carolyn (Greg) Evans of Brimfield; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Dickens of Kentucky.
Completing the family are 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Chelsie, who died on January 2, 2022; a daughter, Patricia Shuman; his siblings, Earl, Layton, Howard, and Irene; and three grandchildren.
The family will greet guests on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A celebration of Bob’s life will be led by Tim Hatfield in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 10:30 AM. A meal and fellowship will be hosted in the Social Hall of the Church of Christ Church following the service.
