A longtime assistant in the Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office is stepping into the top job temporarily – while hoping it leads to a permanent appointment.
County Commissioners have named assistant prosecutor Scott Deedrick the acting prosecutor beginning next month, when current prosecutor Ryan Styer is sworn in as a Common Pleas Court judge.
Deedrick says the transition has been in motion ever since Styer first considered applying for the judge’s position.
With 29 years in the office, Deedrick says he’ll be taking over during a busy stretch, with several major cases underway and a smaller-than-usual staff.
The Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee will meet in mid-March to choose a permanent prosecutor—a post Deedrick says he’s also seeking. Deedrick, if selected, would then have to run for reelection first this fall and then again in two years at the end of the unexpired term.
