Uhrichsville Council approves a new contract with the Firefighter IAFF Local 4265.
Negotiations have been ongoing with the union and city working well together. The overall contract is for three years.
Chief Justin Edwards says within the contract is the potential to create a new position for inspections of business properties.
“That person’s primary responsibility would be inspections, fire safety inspection, and fire safety education. We do inspections now but there will be more of a dedicated person to do that. It’s going to be like an officers’ position.”
He notes this person would also get into the schools.
“Talking to the children and then at the other end community awareness community awareness for some of the elderly in our community to make sure they have smoke detectors and so on.”
The role is possible within the department’s budget. Edwards says the position could be filled within or hired from outside the department.
