Youth can get help to quit vaping through the Tuscarawas County Health Department.

Health Educator Lana Schrock explains the goal is to educate youth on the harmful side effects vaping can cause, like lung and heart damage, brain development disruptions, and nicotine addiction.

“Unfortunately, many middle schoolers and high schoolers today vape and it’s just a trend that is rampant in this county and all over the US.”

Based upon survey results from the Ohio Department of Health, 9% of middle school and 20% of high school students used electronic vapor products.

Schrock says it’s also about educating youth and getting rid of the preconceived idea that vaping is better than smoking a cigarette.

“There have been such metals like nickel, tin, even formaldehyde found in the vape juice, so just not good for you at all. One big misconception kids have is that when they’re inhaling or breathing in it’s just like water vapor and flavoring. That is not true at all. You’re actually breathing in aerosol.”

Schrock notes that e-cigarettes discharge that aerosol causing users to inhale liquid and solid cartridge or pod ingredients into the lungs.
