The Claymont School District is considering options for school consolidations and they want public feedback.
At the latest Board of Education’s meeting, Superintendent Rentsch listed possible options, two looking at closing the intermediate, one to close the elementary, and the other to maintain all five buildings.
After noting uncertainty in politics, property taxes, and in school funding, a meeting has been scheduled for Monday at 6pm following member Cyndy Host’s request.
“We just have to make the decision that is in the best interest of the entire school district not one town versus another town. We have 14-hundred students plus or minus and we have five buildings. It’s all perspective and no matter what we do we’re not going to make everybody happy. I think we have to make a decision one way or another. We’re interested in what you have to say. We won’t make everybody happy and we won’t compete with the emotion. I would like to think that all of us are looking at financial sustainability for the district.”
Board member Lois Grandison advocated for a meeting while noting the need to hear concrete reasons, possible solutions, and good questions rather than emotional feelings about a building where many people have gone to school at.
Monday, March 16th’s public meeting will be at the E 6th Street Claymont Middle School Auditorium located in Uhrichsville.
