Richard C. “Dick” Avon, 75, of Dover, passed away March 17, 2026, at New Dawn Nursing Home in Dover under the care of Sincere Hospice, following a long illness.
Born in Dover on November 11, 1950, he was the son of the late Herman James and Dorothy Gladys (Albaugh) Avon.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1970, Dick served in the United States Army Reserve. He was employed by Burger Chef, Hills, and most recently by Wayne Dalton in Mt. Hope.
On May 5, 1990, he married the former Marilyn Elaine Altier and shared a wonderful life together for nearly 36 years.
Dick enjoyed supporting his nieces and nephews and attending their events.
In addition to Marilyn, Dick is survived by his brother, Donald (Jennie) Avon of Boulder City, Nevada; his sister, Rosemary (Randy) Dessecker of Dover; his sisters-in-law, Denise (Francis) Picchetti of New Philadelphia and Cindy (Dave) Smith of Loveland, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Matthew Avon, Ashley (Greg) Hostetler, Elyse (Geoff) Cihon and Ian (Julie) Picchetti; great-nieces and great-nephews, Caleb Hostetler, Ellie and Gracie Cihon, and Owen and Milo Picchetti; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; his parents-in-law, Leonard and Ida Altier; and his sister-in-law, Wanda Avon.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 10 am to 12 noon. His brother-in-law, Randy Dessecker, will officiate Dick’s funeral beginning at noon.
Memorial contributions in Dick’s memory may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
