An investigation into allegations of misconduct, including intoxication on duty, has led to the resignation of a longtime Dover Police Officer.
A press release from the city says Officer Ryan Porter resigned last week after being threatened with termination. Safety Director Bob Everett’s March 23rd letter to Porter said city officials have concluded that the allegations of misconduct did occur.
The city had intended to terminate Porter on March 24th, but he submitted a letter of resignation first.
Earlier this month, Police Chief Paul Bantum in a letter to Porter outlined the allegations that include intoxication while on or off duty, drinking alcoholic beverages while on duty or before reporting for duty, sleeping on duty, and conduct unbecoming. Public records also indicated an outside law enforcement agency was looking into an OVI allegation.
The city says a special prosecutor will determine if charges will be filed.
Porter had been with the Dover Police Department for around 15 years.
He resigned in a brief letter, thanking the city for the opportunity to serve with the department.
