The City of Uhrichsville will potentially take a deeper look into the viability of the Water Park.
Gerard Neugebauer, with Environmental Design Group, attended the most recent meeting and talked about how the city could benefit from a survey.
“The community has some decision, but what we propose is providing that background information so you can make really good decisions for the residents of your community.”
Mayor Jim Zucal says as whole, city administration and council, understands the challenges the attraction presents, especially with eight more years of debt.
“This Water Park is a big fish for us to fry, and we have to deal with it every year. My concern is the age, the debt, the staffing, some of the things that could happen you know we don’t want a health department issue, so we’ve got to have a plan.”
Zucal notes another frustration is the park being so far from the downtown district.
“When people come in on US 250 from McCauley Drive, they make a left turn, they make another left turn and they’re at the Water Park. When they leave the make a right turn, another right turn and they’re on 250 and they leave. We want foot traffic in our downtown. We want people in our community spend money downtown.”
Neugebauer says overall the city has some big decisions.
“Maybe we start to have some decisions about is this really an asset to the community. I mean, ask the hard questions. Is this something the community really wants to keep. Is this important to the community. Is it just a drain on our finances or is it really beneficial.”
If the city goes with EDG, the survey will pinpoint where visitors to the Water Park are coming from, their satisfaction, if they just spent time at the park, and other details.
