Max L. Immel, age 94, of Dover, died early Friday, April 3, 2026, while in the Inn at Northwood Village, under Crossroads Hospice.

Born in Shanesville, Ohio on March 18, 1932, Max was a son of the late Garrison and Opal Sweitzer Immel and graduated from Garaway High School.

Following his graduation, Max dutifully served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Professionally, he spent 30 years with the Ohio Department of Transportation as a bridge construction project manager.

He was a longtime member of Dover Bible Church, an avid golfer, golf memorabilia collector, and enjoyed genealogy.

Surviving are his children; Debra Sherlock, Ben (Connie) Reynolds and David (Connie) Immel all of Dover; eight grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Melissa Pace, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; his twin sister, Maxine Gerber; a sister-in-law, Peggy Immel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Janet, Max was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Ron Carpenter; a son-in-law, Don Sherlock; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Doran Immel, Roger Immel, Kenneth Immel, and Keith Immel.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 1 – 2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Where Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Max’s life in the funeral home’s chapel starting at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
