The City of Uhrichsville is resuming talks of hiding trash cans and keeping large hoppers in neater condition.

Mayor Jim Zucal requested a committee look into a hidden trash can ordinance several months ago and he recently brought it up again after nothing moved forward.

“I will prepare some information and hopefully we can work on cleaning up these commercial hoppers and dumpsters. Trash cans specifics, the Kimble ordinance regarding trash can specifics, days, and locations I believe also needs an update.”

Councilwoman Barbara Colvin agreed that something needs to change.

“You seem them everywhere. I mean, they’re supposed to be put out the night the trash come and then they were supposed to be put away when the trash comes.”

Zucal says notices will be made to homes that don’t relocate their trash cans, within a reasonable time limit, after pickup.

“We did order some stickers to enforce the city code that’s in place. We want to let people know your can is still on the street, you left it here, or you’re putting it out too early. We’ve got to get in front of that and it’s just a blight to our community.”

Code Enforcement Officer Buck Myers says he’s talked with several people about putting their trash cans in a different location.

“Their response is it is up, and it’s literally 5 feet from the front of their house. It’s sort of a gray area. Most of the people put them back.”

The matter is once again in committee for discussion.
