New Philadelphia firefighters responded to two serious incidents Tuesday and early Wednesday.
Tuesday afternoon, crews assisted at a motorcycle crash at Baltzley Valley Road and Ridge Road Northeast. Assistant Fire Chief Matt Tharp says paramedics arrived around 2:45 and found the rider—a 41-year-old local man—suffering from hip pain. He was flown for treatment.
Then early Wednesday morning, around 5 a.m., firefighters were called to a chimney fire at a home in the 300 block of Bowers Avenue Northwest. The homeowner was already on the roof spraying water down the chimney when crews arrived.
Tharp says heat and flames caused up to 20-thousand dollars in damage to the roof and ceiling area around the chimney, including damage from overhaul work.
