There will be an increased first responder presence at Dover Chemical on Saturday due to annual training.
Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency Director Jennifer James says the full-scale practice scenario will be called in as a chlorine chemical leak, and HAZMAT members will respond in real time.
“It’s a volunteer team and these members are from different parts of the county from different departments. Typically, we don’t see a lot of hazmat incidents within the county. In order to respond you need that muscle memory, making sure you’re pulling in all the right people for the best result.”
James says there will be signs posted on I-77 noting the training exercise.
“When people see a large first responder presence at Dover Chemical it can obviously cause some anxiety, but I just want to stress this is an exercise and this is to help us with our training.”
Davis Road will be closed just past McDonalds. The gas station and McDonalds will still be accessible. 15th St. will be closed just after the railroad tracks. Please try to avoid this area Saturday morning. The training is anticipated to run from 8am to 1pm.
