A settlement agreement was reached within the East Holmes Local School District.
According to a release, the Board of Education approved the move at the March 20th meeting.
The civil complaint was filed in Holmes County Common Pleas Court in July 2025 by Brian Ames of Mogadore. It alleged the district had compliance issues related to Ohio’s Sunshine Laws, like public notice of board meetings and the formatting of meeting minutes. The release says this is one of over 160 similar suits filed by Ames against local governments and school districts across Ohio.
The settlement was agreed to avoid the time and expenses associated with the litigation.
Superintendent Erik Beun (Bee-you-n) said the East Holmes School District wants to ensure they are operating with transparency and will review and strengthen and procedures to comply with Ohio law.
