National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday. Locally, unused and unwanted medication can be dropped off confidentially

The initiative will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and Trinity Health System Twin City Medical Center.

Jeff Neidig with Empower Tusc says that agency promotes the event as part of its mission to prevent substance misuse.

Neidig says they can accept pills and packaged and unused needles, but not liquids, patches or unpackaged or used needles.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Take Back Day happens twice a year in April and October.

Neidig says some area law enforcement agencies have removed permanent drug drop-off boxes at their police stations. That makes Drug Take Back Day a more valuable option for disposing of unwanted medications.
