A museum in downtown Uhrichsville will open its doors for the first time this weekend.
Known as the Clay Capital of the World, the city was once home to over 32 clay manufacturing plants, which produced a variety of products.
Overseeing the project is the Dennison Depot Museum. Director Wendy Zucal says they are excited to highlight progress made on the building but also celebrate the hardworking men and women who built the clay industry.
“This is a two-story department store. We’re cognizant that it’s an industrial museum. There will be a second floor, and we’ll have to do that next that has community space, archival storage, and more exhibit space.”
The first floor will feature a clay mine entrance, a theatre room shaped like a kiln, and a giftshop.
Saturday and Sunday’s open house will be from 10am to 4pm. The building is located at the corner of N. Main and E. 3rd Street.
