Several blood drives are planned for Tuscarawas County through Vitaliant and the American Red Cross.

Opportunities in May include the Tuscarawas County YMCA on the 1st from noon to 6pm. On the 6th, the Red Cross will be in Sugarcreek at Frist United Church of Christ between 1 and 6pm, and the final drive will be at New Towne Mall on May 12th from noon to 6pm.

Vitalant Communications Manager Maya Santana says their bloodmobile will be at Dutch Valley Restaurant, on Old Route 39 in Sugarcreek, on Wednesday, May 6th from 3:15 to 6pm.

She notes that every 2 seconds, someone in the US needs a blood transfusion. Santana explains this could be from a trauma injury, routine surgeries, managing chronic illness, or for those receiving cancer treatment.

“One donation could help save multiple lives and since blood can’t be manufactured or supplied long-term, hospitals rely on a steady flow of donors to maintain a safe and regular supply.”

Participants should drink water and eat iron-rich foods before donating and are reminded to bring a photo ID and a list of any medications.

Individuals can make appointments at vitalant.org or at redcrossblood.org/give.
