A mix up last year is putting a levy on the ballot that officials say is a renewal.
Village of Tuscarawas Mayor Dana Moore says administration missed the 2025 deadline to get a tax levy on the ballot in November.
“Therefore, the levy is off. It was a renewal and miss communication with the auditor’s office in Tuscarawas County, our fault not his, and at that point we are not receiving this levy and it’s essential for the operation of the business of the village.”
The levy for current expenses is to not exceed 2.4 mills for each $1 of taxable value and brings in about $59,412 annually. Moore says it amounts to $84 per $100,000 of the county’s market value.
“It’s for the general operation of the business of the village to pay the bills and it’s very necessary. We hope the voters will understand that. I recently sent out a newsletter explaining the situation that it would have been a renewal last November however it will appear on the ballot as an additional levy.”
Because of it falling off, the levy will show up on the primary ballot as an additional levy instead of a renewal.
“The truth is it would have been a renewal of the previous levy. Just so everybody understands that this is not truly an additional levy even though it appears that. It is only because of a mistake that we made.”
Moore notes that because of the mishap the village is not collecting on the tax in 2026. If voters approve the 5-year levy it would be first due in 2027.
