State troopers investigated several crashes across Tuscarawas County over Mother’s Day weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, crews responded to at least two crashes on I-77 northbound, including one just before New Philadelphia, where a vehicle reportedly struck a disabled car on the shoulder. No report was immediately available.

Then Sunday around 12:15 p.m., three people were injured on U.S. 36 at the east end of Newcomerstown. Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says a car driven by 35-year-old Christina Napier of Uhrichsville, struck an oncoming box truck that was turning left onto State Route 258. Napier was flown to an Akron hospital for life-threatening injuries. Two children in the car were treated and released at Trinity Hospital.

He says the box truck driver, 31-year-old Darwin Muriel of Cleveland, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and appears responsible for the crash.

Later Sunday afternoon, another crash with possible injuries was reported on Tabor Ridge Road Northeast, south of Mineral City.

Authorities also looked into a hit-skip involving a child on a bike Sunday evening on North Johnson Avenue in Dover. The child was checked at the scene and was reported to be okay.
