Dover and its firefighters have agreed on a new three-year contract.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says members of the firefighters’ union will receive annual raises averaging about 3 ½ percent each year.

“It’s very close to what was offered to our police union two years ago. It’s also very similar in terms of compensation to what other jurisdiction of similar size are paying their fire departments.”

The contract includes some changes to health and prescription benefits which Gunnoe says will result in savings to taxpayers.

Next, the city will negotiate a new contract with police union members to replace the one that expires at the end of this year.
