Athletes and stadium visitors will see a new track in the fall following Tuscarawas Valley Board of Education’s affirming vote.
At their regular meeting on Monday, the unanimous decision enters into a contract with Vasco Sports at a cost to not exceed $312,065.
Superintendent Derek Varansky says digging out the existing track and putting in a new foundation and base is needed.
“This is the replacement of the track. The original track I don’t even know when it was put in a longtime ago, and over the years we’ve had it sealed, painted, or a topcoat put on but it’s in pretty rough shape.”
He says there will be a tight timeline.
“They will have to dig out the old track in June. It does have to sit about a month without touching it so that it settles and then they would come back and finish it, so we’re looking at a pretty tight deadline of getting that done before fall sports and we have our first soccer and football games out there.”
It was noted that within the capital project fund money has been set aside.
