Different topics were brought up during the most recent City of Uhrichsville council meeting.

Uhrichsville’s Law Director noted that Larry Wood is still interested in purchasing the service garage and the mayor said they looked at real estate leasing options for a new location.

Jeff Merklin said he would need a motion regarding the landlord settlement agreement, which went through the court system and the registration fee was found to be not legal.

“$99,250 it’ll be paid to the settlement administrator. There were 318, I think, people in the class, 16 opted out so it sounds like there’s roughly 300 landlords that’s going to get about $320 a piece.”

Council requested something in writing with the dollar amounts and other details before a vote.

In another court case, former mayor Mark Haney pled to the lesser charges of theft, a fifth-degree felony, and soliciting improper compensation, a misdemeanor. The Auditor’s Special Investigations Unit claimed Haney improperly received reimbursements for meals, mileage, and other purchases and had used city credit cards on personal purchases.

Mayor Jim Zucal sent a letter for the judge’s consideration saying Haney conducted four years of theft and there should be equal reimbursement.

“They mentioned a number and I think it should be dollar for dollar. The people need to know exactly what he did and what the amount was, and it should be paid back. There was also an audit that was performed like $12,000 to prove that and that has to be paid back.”

Haney’s sentencing is scheduled in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court for June 2nd.
