Five recent high school graduates will receive Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation scholarships as part of a mother’s continuing commitment to her son’s legacy.
Zachary Davis of Dover died of a drug overdose in 2005. Since then, his mother, Anita Davis, started a foundation and has spoken to tens of thousand of kids about the dangers of drugs.
She shares that message at zacchsstory.org.
The Zachary Davis scholarship is awarded to area seniors who are committed to careers related to combating addiction.
This year’s recipients include, from Dover High School, Nathan Basso who plans to major in nursing at Ohio State; Haley Swartzwelder, who plans to study nursing at Kent State Stark; and Shelby Walton, who will major in finance at Kent State. From Garaway, Hannah Dayton, who plans to major in nursing, business and Spanish at Ohio State; and from Tusky Valley Maleah Dillon, who plans to major in physical therapy at Stark State.
