In an attempt to reduce crashes, the Ohio Department of Transportation is changing two local intersections to all-way stops.
District 11 Public Information officer Lauren Borell says the two in their district to receive this change is in Holmes and Carroll counties.
“The intersections that you will see being converted to these all-way stops include [on June 1st] State Route 515 and County Road 168 and that’s located about three miles north of Walnut Creek, and then in Carroll County, on June 15th, we’re going to be converting the State Route 171/Avalon Road about 3.5 miles west of State Route 43.”
Borell notes signs will be posted to alert drivers.
“And then 30 days following the change we’ll continue to have that signage in place to remind people that the intersection is an all-way stop. We’ll continue to monitor these intersections and looking at ways that if we need to improve safety or what we need to do to continue to improve safety.”
Borell says data from North Carolina shows converting two or three-way stops to all-way can drastically improve safety with over 500 of that state’s intersections being converted since 2018, and those intersections having a 100-percent reduction in fatal crashes and a 95-percent reduction in serious injury crashes.
