The Ernest Warther Museum is celebrating 90 years and invites the community to a June 13th festival.

Director Kristen Mooreland says the original museum building was dedicated in 1936 to house Mooney’s carvings but there have been new additions.

“He spent 40 years of his free time carving the evolution of the steam engine so that’s our main exhibit space. He left behind his journals and photographs, so we have broken that down and put them with each piece in beautiful panels. They look amazing. You get to learn exactly how pieces are in it, how many hours he spent carvings, and see his journal entries from working on that, so it’s really cool and it’s going to be a great addition to the museum.”

Friday, June 12th will feature a state historical marker dedication and official exhibit opening at 10am followed by a garden tour.

On Saturday, the celebration continues throughout the day with the first 50 admissions receiving collector pliers and for the first 150 children, a keepsake backpack.

Mooreland says they have other planned interests.

“We’re going to have some live music in the afternoon from 2:30 to 5. Got giveaways throughout the day. A couple of programs on Frieda and introduction to wood carving and that registration you can sign up online ahead of time.”

There will also be a chainsaw carving demonstration from 10am to 2:30pm, and the final piece will be auctioned.
