
The state budget proposal awaiting Governor Mike DeWine’s signature includes more than $5 million dollars for projects in Tuscarawas County.
The biggest investment is 2.4 million dollars for improvements at Fort Laurens, the state’s only Revolutionary War fort in Bolivar. Zoar Village is slated to receive nearly one million dollars for improvements and rehabilitation of the Sewing House and Zoar Hotel.
Fort Laurens and Zoar Village fall under the umbrella of the Ohio History Connection, where spokesman Neil Thompson is looking forward to the June 27th ceremony to rededicate the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot, which has been upgraded as part of the ongoing work at Fort Laurens.
Strasburg is slated to receive 600-thousand dollars toward its community center amphitheater.
Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe is excited about 300-thousand dollars coming to his city for City Park Playground improvements, including new surfacing.
Other projects to receive state funding include the New Philadelphia South Side trail, Tuscarawas Memorial Park, Gnadenhutten pickleball courts and Roswell Park.
The Ohio House and Senate have approved the state’s 4-billion-dollar, 2027-2028 biennial capital budget. It is headed to Governor DeWine’s desk for his signature.
