The city of Uhrichsville is inching toward the possibility of a new service garage location.
At their latest meeting, Law Director Jeff Merklin emphasized the need to have a title search conducted on land the city is interested in leasing.
The property is owned by a trust which means we need to see if he has the power in the trust, especially if you’re going to put our property there and then in four months there’s somebody who said you shouldn’t have done that and then we’ve got to find a place to move.”
The lot under question is at the corner of S. Romig Street and Trenton Avenue.
As for the sale of the current garage at N. Main and E 2nd, Merklin says Larry Wood is still interested but there were some changes to the contract, many he had no issue with except for one sentence Wood wants taken out.
“The key is he will not agree to kind of a catch all phrase and that’s the one I really wanted to most, which was buyer acknowledges all environmental risks are passed to buyer on closing.”
There has been nothing to indicate an environmental risk, but Merklin points out unknowns to when the building was an auto garage and what might have occurred during those years.
Merklin feels that council has a few options, to have a full environmental assessment done which would cost thousands of dollars, approve to take out the phrase, or vote to keep the sentence in the contract.
Council took all points under review and are expected to make a decision at a future meeting.
