A Wednesday crash was fatal for a 70-year-old from Waynesburg.
The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Post is investigating the three-vehicle collision that occurred shortly before 5pm on State Route 43 in Carroll County.
Sgt. Nick Sutterluety says a 2016 Volkswagen Golf was west on 43 and attempted to pass a Dodge Ram but struck a 2012 Subaru head-on.
“The Ram 1500 was struck by the two vehicles involved in the head-on crash, and the Ram traveled off on the north side of the road and the Subaru overturned onto its roof in the roadway.”
The Subaru driver, 70-year-old Lee Meadows, of Waynesburg, died at the scene. A passenger was taken to the hospital for injuries. The Ram driver, a 34-year-old from Malvern was treated at the scene.
Sutterluety says the Volkswagen driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital.
“Operated by Ronald Romano III, age 31, of Malvern. He was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from his vehicle.”
Speed is believed to be a factor.
