The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash Sunday night near Bolivar that may involve fault on both drivers.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Jennifer Makris says that at just before 8pm, a Nissan Altima was traveling north on Northwood Avenue when the driver, Ridge Reichman, of New Philadelphia, failed to yield to a stop sign at the North Orchard Road intersection. The Nissan was struck on the left side by a Dodge Ram, operated by Skylar Nelson, a 27-year-old from Bolivar.

Reichman was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Nelson and a passenger were not injured.

Makris says, at this point in their investigation, alcohol is a possible contributing factor.

“It’ll be investigated by a crash reconstruction unit. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor for the Ram 1500. We do not have any test results on the operator of the Nissan Altima.”

Markis adds they will consult with the prosecutor’s office for any changes.

Bolivar, Dover, and Strasburg EMS assisted on scene along with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.
