Saturday’s Tuscarawas County River Canoe and Kayak race boasted competitors from four states and a few who compete nationally and internationally.
Thomas Hull teamed up with his girlfriend Raquel Timm of Bay Village to finish first in the 3-mile race. Hull has raced on four continents and 10 countries as part of national Dragon Boat teams, giving him less time for kayaking.
John Dunkelberger of Northumberland, Pa., finished first in the 10-mile race. The president of the Pennsylvania Association of Canoeing and Kayaking was competing in his first Tuscarawas River race. He was looking for some competition as he gets ready for the U.S. Canoe Associations’ nationals in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, in August.
Other competitors came from as far away as Indiana and Michigan, and as close as Dover, where the race starts and ends at the Canal Dover riverside park.
