Dover City Hall was closed Friday so officials could move into their new digs about a block away.
The new Dover municipal building will open on Monday with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 10 a.m. at the former First Federal Bank building at 321 North Wooster Avenue. The city took out 3 million dollars in bonds in 2024 to buy and renovate the building.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the change in address will be the first for Dover City Hall in more than 120 years.
After the ribbon-cutting, the mayor and staff members will lead tours in the new building, which includes offices for the mayor, safety director, service director and other departments that had been split up over a few buildings. The new Council chambers is in the basement.
Gunnoe is one of a few elected officials to change meeting locations twice – first in 2010 from a space over the police station and now from the East 2nd Street chambers to the new municipal center.
The vacated offices in City Hall will become part of the police department. Other spaces, like the old auditor and utilities office, will become part of the fire department.
