Village of Dennison council is expected to vote on an ordinance related to e-bikes and e-scooters.

The topic was raised last month following a citizen complaint of almost hitting youth riding on the electric transportation who are not following traffic laws.

Police Chief Todd Beeman says his officers have been working to educate.

“And we’ve seen the difference ever since we started stopping them. It’s gotten a lot better. Every agency has had to deal with these. We’re trying to take the approach on educating more than anything so that we can promote safety.”

Part of the proposed ordinance would require anyone under the age of 18 to wear a helmet.

“The other part would be stuff on sidewalks. Limit that to where if they’re going to be on the sidewalk to walking pace for speed.”

Beeman adds they are also working on setting up an informational class for parents and youth.
