Iva Ruth Riggle, 98, of Kensington, passed away Monday afternoon, July 20, 2026 surrounded by family following a period of declining health.

Born August 11, 1927 in her parents’ home in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Earl Warner and Averil (Jones) McIlvaine.

Iva graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1945. On June 11, 1949, she married her loving husband of 63 years, the late James David “Dave” Riggle before he entered the United States Marine Corps to serve in Korea.

Iva and Dave enjoyed square-dancing and she volunteered at Union Hospital. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, too. Her greatest joy was spending time with Dave and her children and grandchildren who fondly recall long afternoon drives throughout eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia, often for no other reason than to travel together for lunch. Iva and Dave also traveled extensively throughout the United States and the Caribbean.

She’ll be sadly missed by her daughter, LuAnn Horn of Carrollton; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Kurtis) Roberts of Kensington, Rebecca (Corey) McCahill of New Philadelphia, Melinda Horn of Dover, Timothy (Tiffany) Riggle of Richmond, VA, Melanie Krause of Dover and Michelle (Jason) Shives of Charleston, SC; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Riggle of Richmond, Virginia. Fourteen great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews including Sue and John Glazer and Bob Espenschied, complete the family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Dave, Iva was preceded in passing by her son, Dennis Riggle; her son-in-law, Milford Horn; her brother, Robert McIlvaine; her sister, Audrey (Paul) Espenschied; and sister-in-law, Rose Ann McIlvaine.

Friends are invited to call Friday, July 24, 2026 from 12 to 2 p.m. Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Rev. Cockrill will lead Iva’s funeral beginning at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
