Uhrichsville’s mayor is taking some time off to address a medical situation.

A Monday morning announcement from the city does not specify what Mayor Jim Zucal is dealing or how long he will be absent. It wishes him a speedy recovery. City officials say there are no further comments at this time. City Council President Buck Cottrell will serve as interim mayor.

The mayor’s administrative assistant Bonnie Coventry was planning on working her last day on Monday, but she has decided to stay considering these recent developments. Coventry has been in the position for about a year and a half.

“I love helping the people. I love talking to people. It’s been a great challenge, it really has. It’s my retirement job and I’ve loved it.”

She would not comment on any specific reason on why she is leaving.

At Thursday’s council meeting, councilwoman Barbara Colvin questioned what they could do to keep Coventry on staff.

“I think we need to make a motion to give this woman a raise to keep her. I mean, come on people, we’ve got to keep good people in good places.”

The request to increase the admin assistant pay will be reviewed by the finance committee.
