A New Philadelphia Police captain is rejoining the village of Tuscarawas as its police chief.
Ty Norris, who heads the New Philadelphia detective bureau, will balance that full-time position with the part-time chief job, which he also held from 2015 to 2022. He resigned when he was first assigned to lead the New Philadelphia detective bureau.
Norris says Tuscarawas Mayor Dana Moore asked him to come back about two months ago when Chief Jim Goodall announced he was leaving.
He says there are challenges to balancing two jobs, but village officials understand when he must prioritize his responsibilities in New Philadelphia.
Norris says the Tusky police department consists of the chief and two officers. He intends to add one or two more officers to bring the department back to previous staffing levels.
