Janice Ruth Kohl, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and devoted member of her community, passed away on August 3, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on February 25, 1932, in Newcomerstown, Ohio. After graduating from Newcomerstown High School in 1950, she worked at Goshen Brick as a secretary until she married Donald Kohl on February 4, 1954.
Throughout her life, Janice gave generously of her time, talents, and love to others. She was an active community volunteer, serving with Girl Scouts, Red Cross swimming lessons, Meals on Wheels and donating blood. She served on the school board and had a term as the president. She was also a member of the Music Study Club and a card club, and she enjoyed square dancing.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer of the East Ohio Conference for the United Methodist Women’s missionary.
Janice had many talents and interests. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and dulcimer. A talented seamstress, she took pride in her handiwork and creativity. She also taught many sewing classes.
In her early years, she and her husband Donald started a floral business, and she later worked at The Pin Cusion, forming many lasting friendships along the way. Whether through her work, volunteer service, music, or simply lending a helping hand, she touched the lives of many people.
Above all, Janice will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue through the many lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by husband, Donald, her parents Howard Arzone and Carma Hagan Rogers, brother, Howard Rogers and grandson Wesley Porter. She is survived by her children Ruth Hulthen (Mark), Donna
Kohl (Bill Willis), Linda Klark (Allen), Sally Albrigo (Edward), Karen Jacobs (Jeff), Amy Hoag (Arthur), John Kohl and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Christ Methodist Church, 648 Oak St Newcomerstown, Ohio 43832. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 pm officiated by Pastor Bracken Foster.
