An auditor is officially appointed for the City of Uhrichsville until the position goes back to the ballot.

Council reviewed the application at their latest meeting and voted to hire Aaron Rimer.

Rimer says he grew up in the Dennison area and graduated from West Virginia University.

“From there I was blessed to work for great three individuals, starting with Greg DiDonato at the Ohio senate, came back home and got a job at the clerk’s office for 10 years and then moved on to work as an assistant for Judge Elizabeth Thomakos for the last 10 years. It’s an honor that you have faith in me. I’m a quick learn and I’m going to take as much time and knowledge as much as I can and move forward to make sure everything runs just as it needs to.”

Meanwhile, Service director Cade Watkins says there have been mechanical and staffing challenges more recently at the water park.

“Still looking at options for a new heater. It’s completely given up on us. It’s been hard to staff with kids going back to school and sports. It’s been a huge challenge to keep it open.”

During acting mayor Buck Cottrell’s report, he noted a recent downtown walk with an economic development representative. After talking with several businesses, an ordinance was crafted to change an alley to a one way.

“Behind Smoker’s Paradise, that alley, we think it should be one way coming from the post office and going straight across. You can’t go two ways anyhow. It’s pretty narrow and the businesspeople asked if we would do that form them.”

Watkins also notes the recent walk through of the downtown district.

“The downtown business walk I think it went very well. Got some good ideas from some of the businesses. A one-way alley from Uhrich to Main, and then that alley coming out onto 3rd will be a one way as well. I think it makes sense. The flow of traffic will be smoother.”

That ordinance will go through two more readings before a vote.
