The new homeless shelter in Tuscarawas County will be getting a boost from the community this weekend — on two wheels.

Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County is holding its Pedaling for a Purpose bicycle ride Saturday to raise money for operations at Jack’s House of Hope, which opened earlier this year.

Board President Joe Svancara says the event is about more than cycling — it’s an opportunity for people to come together and support those in need.

The ride begins at 10 Saturday morning at Canal Lands Park on Dover-Zoar Road. Participants can choose a six-mile or 25-mile route along the Towpath Trail, or ride whatever distance they’d like.

Registration is 25 dollars, with free admission for children accompanied by a paid adult. The first 50 paid riders also receive a free T-shirt. Registration information is available through the Friends of the Homeless Facebook page.
