The Village of Dennison’s rescue truck will be scraped after an inspection found a compromised chassis.
Mayor Greg DiDonato says the 20-year-old truck is completely rusted out, despite the vehicle sitting in a building most of the time and only having about 23,000 miles.
The cost to repair would be upwards of $60,000.
“I honestly think it’s got a flaw, something’s wrong because that truck is in the building but the chassis, the whole support for it, it’s all rusted out. I say we get a price to scrap it. You can’t sell it.”
Fire Assistant Chief Jim Shamel says this truck was used for rescue operations.
“We have all our extrication equipment on it, so we moved it to our other engine right now. We still have the ability to go out on wrecks and do all the things we need to do; it’s just on a different engine.”
Meanwhile, the village will have a new truck within the next year after Mill Township put in a purchase order.
