Another form of skating could soon be available in the Village of Dennison.
Mayor Greg DiDonato discussed the possibility of having roller skating on the concrete pad at the gazebo during times of Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
“If council wants to move forward, somebody bought 120 new pair of skates. They’re in Cambridge. He was doing it to help something out and it fell through and he’s now had them for two year collecting dust.”
The village would rearrange the picnic tables and add road barricades to form a boundary.
“We have 5,200 square feet. It would be all the cement from the bottom of the steps of the gazebo to the wall and back. I’ve got a group, a local non-profit, they would like to do it and I thought we could do this for our kids and have something.”
He notes that adding this amenity would not be costly to the village.
“The Twin City Chamber of Commerce agreed approved at their meeting $4,500. We may have to buy some banners, signs for rules, but basically they’ve already approved to give us the money to buy the fencing and the shoes.”
If everything is approved and set in motion, the roller skate zone has a tentative opening on October 4th. The area would at some point transition to the ice rink.
