Tuscarawas County Engineer Doug Bachman says the office has moved to 1811 Possum Hollow Road Southeast, near the intersection with Oldtown Valley Road in Goshen Township.
He says the county had originally secured state grant funding to renovate and expand the former office on Front Avenue Southwest, but bids came in higher than expected.
When the former Mushrush property became available, county officials determined buying the newer facility was the better long-term option compared to operating out of a garage built in 1964.
Bachman says the move gives the department more modern space and should improve operations, especially for trucks and equipment that previously had to travel through tighter, busier areas of New Philadelphia – particularly the intersection of Bluebell Drive and West High Avenue.
The purchase price was about 3.2-million dollars, but Bachman says state grants brought the county’s share down to less than one-million dollars.
The office staff has already moved in, while mechanics, trucks, salt storage, and the department’s concrete bridge beam operation will transition over time.
Bachman says an open house is planned once the department is fully settled.
