Impairment is considered a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in Tuscarawas County.
New Philadelphia Post State Highway Patrol troopers responded to State Route 212 on Saturday.
They determined that at around 12:30pm, a Harley Davidson motorcycle was eastbound and was struck by a westbound Honda Civic. The Civic had traveled left of center. After the impact, both vehicles went off the road and struck a guardrail. The motorcycle continued down an embankment.
OSP says the Harley operator, 73-year-old James Goodmote, of Rootstown, was pronounced deceased on scene. He had not been wearing any safety equipment.
The Honda driver, 32-year-old Corey J.M. Fisher, of Dover, sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Aultman Hospital. Fisher had not been wearing a seatbelt and is believed to have been impaired.
The investigation continues.
