The community will mark International Overdose Awareness Day Monday, August 31st with HOPE in the Park at the Tuscora Park Amphitheater.

The event, organized by the Tuscarawas County ADAMHS Board, begins at 5 p.m. with local agencies and treatment providers sharing information about addiction and recovery resources.

Community Services Manager Leslie Korns says the remembrance ceremony begins at 6, featuring music, a speaker sharing their recovery journey and a bell-ringing ceremony honoring each life lost to overdose.

Seven overdose deaths were recorded in Tuscarawas County last year, a significant decline from the peak of the overdose epidemic.

Korns credits collaboration among health departments, treatment providers, the recovery community and other local partners for helping reduce overdose fatalities.
