John S. “Jack” Dauer Sr., 101, of Zoarville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

He was born on March 3, 1925, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Anna (Robertson) Dauer. Jack was also preceded in death by his brother, four sisters, and a grandson, James Ray Dauer.

Jack proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps during World War II, from February 1943 until June 1946. He retired in 1989 from Marlite after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Zoarville, the Tuscarawas Valley Ruritan Club, the Marine Corps League, and the Mineral City American Legion. He loved playing cards and enjoyed a variety of games with family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife of 77 years, Betty A. (Barnes) Dauer, whom he married on January 22, 1949; son, John (Delma) Dauer Jr. of South Carolina; daughter, Cindy Dauer of Zoarville; grandchildren, Randy Joe (Abby) Turney, Jennifer Dauer, Trent (Niki) Eckert, Shane (Heidi) Sanner, John Dauer, and Jeff Dauer; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Randle, Franklin, Jacob, and Jaxon Turney, and Mariah, Aria, and Amira Sanner; great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Parklynn Martin; special caretaker, Connie Boyd; and former son-in-law Lanny Eckert. The family wishes to thank Dr. Heistand, the Sandy Township Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, Stark Summit Ambulance, Veterans Directed Care (Dustin), and the Veterans staff of New Philadelphia and Canton for their care and support.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover. In accordance with Jack’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
