New Philadelphia firefighters handled two structure fires outside the city at the same time Wednesday night.
Assistant Chief Matt Tharp says crews were first called just before 9:30 p.m. to assist Fairfield Township for a pole-building fire on Tabor Ridge Road NE. He says residents heard a bang and found the building burning. The structure was a total loss, though firefighters saved a nearby camper and kept damage to the home minimal. Firefighters were on scene for nearly four hours, and investigators returned today to determine the cause.
About 20 minutes later, Tharp says crews were sent to help Uhrichsville firefighters with an 8-by-8 wooden pump-house shed fully involved off Barnhill Road SE in Goshen Township. They had it out in less than a minute. That shed and its contents were destroyed. The cause is listed as undetermined and unintentional. Crews cleared the scene in about 40 minutes.
There were no injuries in either fire.
